maqbool bhat, afzal guru, kashmirIslamabad: The Chairman Jammu and Kashmir People’s Freedom League (JKPFL) and senior Hurriyat leader, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, has paid rich tributes to Muhammad Maqbool Bhat Shaheed and Afzal Guru shaheed for their great sacrifice for the freedom of Kashmir, who were hanged by India in 1984 and 2003 respectively. He stressed and repeated the popular and just demand for returning their remains from Delhi to be buried in Kashmir—a moral and legal right of the people of Kashmir. He said their farcical trial and hanging in the Tihard jail was a judicial murder as the due legal process was violated during the trial of the two Kashmiri leaders.

In his statement, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani strongly condemned harsh measures taken by the Indian regime under the draconian laws across the State to curb political activities: seminars and rallies to pay homage to these national heroes of Jammu and Kashmir. He said, “The entire State gives a grave-yard’s look because of crack-down on pro-freedom organizations and their leaders and supporters. The freedom fighting youth continuously face police-harassment and imprisonment on the occasion of the martyred leaders’ martyrdom anniversary. Moreover, killing with impunity by police continues, while every martyred youth causes uproar to gather thousands of mourners on their last funeral rites in burial grounds of Kashmir.

This public respond to the martyrs speaks a lot on the situation of the occupied land and over the pulse of the people, who are not ready to compromise on the mission of freedom and right of self-determination.” He cautioned that there was no solution to the burning conditions of the Indian occupied Kashmir without the withdrawal of the Indian troops and finally associating the pro-freedom leadership with meaningful negotiations to find out a peaceful and durable way out according to the urges and aspirations of the Kashmiris.
