A civilian injured during clashes near an encounter site in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district succumbed at District Hospital Anantnag on Sunday, taking the overall death toll to eight.
Four militants, two soldiers and a civilian had already died in the gunfight in Frisal village of Kulgam district earlier today, triggering protests and clashes.

Fifteen persons were injured after forces resorted to firing and shelling to break up protests near the encounter site.
The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Mushtaq Ahmad Itoo, son of Mohammad Ibrahim Itoo, resident of Hatigam village of Srigufwara Bijbehara.
As the news of death of the civilian spread, people staged massive protests inside the District Hospital Janglatmandi and shouted pro-freedom slogans.

Forces fired teargas shells inside the hospital premises to disperse the protesters.
Officials at the District Hospital said that twenty-five people were admitted here, fifteem with bullet injuries.
“Four people were referred to Srinagar,” they said.
