Srinagar: Policemen Abdul Ahad Jan, who shot to instant fame for hurling a shoe at former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on August 15, 2010 died on Saturday moning at his home town Ajas, Bandipora.

Jan’s family told Rising Kashmir that he died of kidney failure.

They said that Jan lost his kidneys after facing torture following the shoe throwing incident.

Ahad Jan hurled a shoe at the then chief minster Omar Abdullah soon after he unfurled the tricolor at Independence Day function in 2010.

This was the first case of shoe hurling incident in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.

Jan that time had accused mainstream leadership for killings in Kashmir.

He was soon arrested and alledegly tortured by the high ranking police officials.
