SRINAGAR Mar 09 (KNS): Three militants were killed in two encounters, while two civilians were killed and 16 persons including civilians and forces personnel were injured in clashes between government forces and
protesters in Kashmir on Thursday.

Two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants were killed in an encounter with government forces in Padgampora in southern Kashmir’s Pulwama disitrct.

The two militants have been identified by police as Jahangir Ahmad Ganaie of Koil and Shafat Shergojri of Benderpora of Pulwama district.

Director General of Police, Dr S P Vaid told KNS that the militants 

belong to LeT.Vaid said that two civilians were also killed in the district at two
different places.

“One civilian [Amir Nazir] was killed due to stray bullet near
encounter site, while another civilian [Jalal-u-Din] died of heart
attack. He had no injury,” the DGP told KNS.

While one civilian, identified as Amir Nazir, 15, of Begumbagh was
killed near encounter site in Padgampora, another civilian,
Jalal-u-din was killed in Tahab in Pulwama district.

“Nine more civilians were injured due to stray bullets at encounter
site. Two policemen were injured due to fire from the crowd, while
four policemen got injured due to stone pelting from youth,” the DGP
said.

Meanwhile, one militant of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed in Bandipora
in an encounter with forces, while an army major was injured in his
leg due to bullet fired by the militant.

The militant has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad of Bandipora.

The militant was killed when police and army laid a checkpoint outside
police station Bandipora following specific inputs.

“During the checking, a militant travelling in a vehicle opened fire
in which an army major of 14 RR was injured. The militant was killed
in retaliatory fire,” police said.

“The encounter has concluded,” the DGP said. (KNS)
