Srinagar, April 03: A teenager from Panzan area of Chadoora lost eyesight after his eyes were hit by pellets fired by police and paramilitary forces in the area Monday evening.
Abdul Rashid Sheikh, 18, received many pellets after he was coming back to his home from work. “He left early in the morning for work in a nearby village, but on his way back home he was caught in a raid during which forces rained pellets on the youth. He was hit by pellets in the eyes,” Sheikh’s family said.
He was taken to SMHS hospital Srinagar by local youth where he is undergoing treatment.
“He has lost eyesight in both eyes due to pellets,” the family members quoted doctors as saying.
“He was not part of any protest but was coming back home. He was walking when the forces rained pellets on his face and hit his eyes,” they said.
Sheikh, a welder by profession, had left home to earn livelihood only to return home blinded. His father Ghulam Mohammad Shiekh works as a labourer.
