Protests intensify after soldiers ‘thrash’ students in Chatergul Kangan
Srinagar: Indian army on Thursday barged into a school in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district after students protesting against police crackdown on Pulwama college last week allegedly pelted stones on their camp.
Earlier, sources and reports said, the students of Government Higher Secondary School Chatergul in Kangan area held a protest demonstration in solidarity with the Pulwama college students.
However, some students allegedly pelted stones on an army camp located in the area.
In retaliation, sources said, the troopers fired several shots in air to chase away the students.
Later, the army men allegedly went inside the school and thrashed the students, triggering massive protests.
Meanwhile, sources said that top police and civil officials have rushed to spot to pacify the situation.
A senior police official confirmed the incident.
He, however, claimed that the situation is under control now.
