Budgam: Intense clashes erupted in Budgam town Wednesday, between the students of Government Degree College Budgam and government forces.
Clashes started after police tried to stop students from marching towards the main town. “As the students marched outside the college, to protest against the continuous detention of the students throughout the valley, police used tear gas shells to disperse them,” local sources said.
The students re-assembled and started raising slogans demanding the release of students. When police chased the students they retaliated by pelting stones, which triggered chaos in the town, they said.
Witnesses said that police did not went near the college however the students tried to march upto the town but a heavy contingent of police stopped their march.
They added that soon the protests intensified and shopkeepers pulled down their shutters.
Meanwhile protests were also reported from Higher Secondary Budgam.
Reports said that the students boycotted their classes and staged protest inside the college premises.
