Srinagar, (GNS): Operational commander of Hizbul Mujahideen and one of the longest serving militants Yasin Yatoo alias Mehmood Ghaznavi is dead along with two other militants in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources told news agency GNS that earlier it was presumed that Adil Malik along with Umar and Irfan were killed in fierce gunfight at Awneera in Shopian that raged since last evening.
Yatoo was a resident of Chadoora in Budgam district and had joined militancy in 1997 after crossing over to other side of the Line of Control.
The gunfight also left two soldiers dead while unknown number of militants reportedly escaped from the spot.
Meanwhile authorities have directed telecom authorities to block mobile Internet services in Budgam district.
Clashes in Chadura after the news of Yatoo death
Clashes erupted in Chadoora town of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Sunday after news of death of Hizb Commander Mehmood Ghaznavi – a resident of Nagam area – reached here.
An eye witness said that youth took to streets and pelted forces deployed in the area with stones.
The forces responded by firing teargas shells, triggering clashes.
Operational Commander of Hizb ul Mujahideen Muhammad Yasin Yatoo alias Mehmood Ghaznavi was killed along with two associates in an overnight gunfight with forces in Awneera village of the district.
Yatoo was a resident of Nagam area of Chadoora in Budgam district and had joined militancy in 1997 after crossing over to other side of the Line of Control.
