‘They said that women held a demonstration in Khanyar after a woman’s braid was mysteriously cut in Kaw Mohalla area’
Srinagar: Protests erupted in Bemina and Khanyar areas of Srinagar on Wednesday against braid-chopping incidents.

Reports said that protesters, mostly women, took to streets in both the areas to protest the unabated cases of braid-chopping.
They said that women held a demonstration in Khanyar after a woman’s braid was mysteriously cut in Kaw Mohalla area.
The protesters blocked the road to demand arrest of the culprits.

Hair of several young girls and women in many parts of the Valley has been mysteriously found chopped during the past month.
These girls and women have told their families and police that unknown persons cut their hair after knocking them unconscious with some spray.
Meanwhile, reports from Bemina said that two alleged braid-choppers were nabbed by the residents.
Quoting locals, a report said that two persons, believed to be braid choppers, were nabbed along with arms.

As the news spread, people took to streets and staged protests.

Meanwhile, the Joint Resistance Leadership joined by scores of people held a demonstration in the premises of Jamia Masjid at Nowhatta in Srinagar to express their resentment against the braid-cutting incidents.
