Srinagar: HCBA General Secretary, G N Shaheen Saturday said, “There seems to be no end HR violations in Kashmir valley and the acts include extrajudicial killings, fake encounters, haphazard detaining and arrests of youth, custodial tortures, and denying of fundamental rights and freedom of expression.”
Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Saturday on the eve of International Human Rights Day said, “There is a lot of violation of human rights in Kashmir especially against the Kashmiri prisoners languishing in jails outside the state.”
Shaheen said that Kashmir is witnessing an enormous HR violations at the hands of various agencies and security forces and central Jail authorities outside the state especially the “Tihar Jail forces are beating the Kashmiri prisoners without any reason and even have tried to kill many of the prisoners lodged there.”
Shaheen further added that “fatal attacks were committed by the authorities of Tihar Jail in which 13 Kashmiri prisoners were targeted”.
Shaheen who was speaking during a one-day seminar during a daylong seminar ‘Plight of Kashmiri Political Prisoners’ lodged in different jails, both inside and outside the state.
The seminar was organized by HCBA here at Moominabad District Court Complex Srinagar.
During the seminar, many lawyers, members of civil society, various human rights and other dignitaries were present and subsequently spoke on various human rights issues in Kashmir.
