Srinagar:At least 24 militants and 12 security personnel were killed in different militancy incidents across the north Kashmir’s Bandipora district this year.
As per the data, 24 militants including two top Lashkar-i-Toiba commanders were killed in seven different encounters in the district in 2017.
The militant killings were mostly reported from Hajin township, which was once hub of counterinsurgency in the Valley.
“Of 24 militants killed in gunfights in district, 14 were killed in Hajin area,” reveals the data.
Two LeT commanders Zargam and Mehmood Bhai, who were active in Hajin area of Bandipora, were among the 24 militants killed.
According to official figures, 12 troopers were also killed and nine others injured during the militancy violence this year.
It states that seven infiltration bids were reported along the LoC in Gurez during the year.
An off-duty BSF man was killed inside his home in the knife and gun attack by militants this year.
A counter insurgent Rashid Billa was also killed by militants in the district this year.
A top army officer said 2017 was a difficult for security agencies.
“However, we managed to contain the situation after changing the strategy,” he said.
