Jammu: A day after family of murdered Kathua minor girl met Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, the Gujjar Bakarwal community Tuesday staged a protest in Jammu and halted vehicular movement near Jammu’s Jewel Chowk for hours.
The protesters demanded justice against gruesome act and capital punishment for the culprits who are involved in the rape and murder of the child.

Reports said that a large number of people carried out a protest rally and then staged a sit-in near Jewel Chowk Jammu.
The protesters said that the state government has failed to protect the citizens: no mother, sister and daughter are safe in the state. “Even the CM of the state is herself a female and could have done a lot to safeguard the women but she utterly failed to do so,” they said. The protesters said that government’s intention to shield culprits became clear when they arrested social activist Talib Hussain for raising voice against this “gruesome rape and murder”.
Civil and police officials visited the spot and pacified them with an assurance that Crime Branch has already been investigating the case.
