SRINAGAR: The residents of Jablipora in Bijbehara area of Islamabad/Anantnag district have resented the establishment of an Indian Army camp and demanded its immediate removal.
Locals told media that a company of Indian Army’s 1-Rahstiya Rifles occupied the Panchayat ghar at Jablipora on Tuesday night. They said that last month, the battalion had tried to establish the camp at Shamsipora village of Islamabad. However, following massive public outcry, the Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag had formally written to the Indian Army not to establish camp in the area, they added.
On Wednesday morning, the residents of Jablipora were surprised on seeing the army installation at the Panchayat ghar, after which they held protests demanding eviction of the army personnel forthwith.
The protesters said that the presence of the army camp would bring trouble to them. “If the Panchayat ghar is not vacated by army we will come out on roads,” the protesters warned.
