Besides Srinagar, restrictions were imposed in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district and Sopore town.

Bhat belonged to Kupwara’s Trehgam village.

Senior separatist leaders, Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, have been placed under detention to prevent their participation in protests.

Contingents of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in full riot gear were deployed in the areas where restrictions have been imposed.

Public transport remained off the roads in Srinagar and most of the places in the Valley due to a shutdown called by Joint Resistance Leadership.
