The slain youth as reported earlier, were identified as Eisa Fazli (B.Tech student) Syed Owais Shafi (B.Tech student) and Sabzar Ahmad Sofi. The killings led to anti-India protests followed by massive clashes between Indian forces and angry youth in several places of the Kashmir including Srinagar.

Complete spontaneous shutdown was observed in old Srinagar, Shopian, Islamabad/Annantnag and other areas of the Valley against the killings. All shops, business establishments and schools were closed while traffic was off the roads. Class work at the University of Kashmir and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajauri was suspended and all examinations scheduled, today, were postponed. The authorities suspended internet and train services in the Valley, although high speed internet was restored on the evening.
