JEDDAH, April 03:The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the indiscriminate and arbitrary killing of 17 Kashmiris by the Indian occupation forces in southern part of Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK) recently. The repetitive, systematic and systemic violations of human rights by the Indian forces continue to result in killing, torturing and maiming of innocent Kashmiri civilians including women, children and elderly. The unlimited powers enjoyed by the Indian forces coupled with the silence of international community has led to a culture of impunity in IoK that has crippled the daily lives of Kashmiris and seriously affected all their civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, the Commission added.
Peaceful and unarmed protests by Kashmiri youth to demand their legitimate right to self-determination are dealt by the Indian occupation forces with use of excessive and disproportionate force, resulting in torture, extrajudicial killings, rape and severe bodily harms including mass blinding through use of pellets. These are deplorable and blatant violations of Kashmiris’ fundamental human rights including the right to life, right to freedom of expression, right to peaceful protest and assembly, which must be stopped forthwith.
The IPHRC called upon the government of India to immediately bring an end to the ongoing spate of killings and all human rights violations by the Indian occupation forces as well as to allow international human rights organizations including the OIC-IPHRC to visit IoK for an independent review of the human rights situation on ground. It also called upon the United Nations in particular the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to urgently dispatch a fact-finding visit to Jammu and Kashmir to independently ascertain and report on the allegations of human rights violations.
The OIC-IPHRC, while reiterating the call made by the OIC Secretary General to the international community to play its rightful role in promoting a just and lasting solution to the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions and aspiration of Kashmiri people, affirmed its principled support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir for realization of their legitimate right to self-determination in accordance with relevant UN Security Council and OIC resolutions. — SG
