Srinagar: The four militants killed in Shopian gunfight in southern Kashmir on Tuesday morning have been identified. A Hurriyat leader was shot dead in Anantnag.
Sources said that the slain militants were active with Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and have been identified as *Basarat Ah Neegro, son of Ab Rashid Negroo, a resident of Chotigam; Mehraj ud Din, son of Ab Ahad Najar, a resident of Drawani; Abid Nazir Chopan, son of Nazir Ah Chopan, a resident of Padderpora and Anam ul haq, son of Mubarak Hussain, a resident of Motiju in south Kahsmir.
The slain were killed in a gunfight with government forces in the wee hours on Tuesday. A para-commando was also killed in the gunfight while three others were injured.
Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen on Saturday shot dead a Hurriyat (G) leader associated with THK in Achabal area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday. He was district president of THK Shopian.
Reports reaching GNS said that unidentified gunmen fired upon Hafiz Ullah Mir at his home at Budhra area of Achabal.
He was immediately shifted to district hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Medical Superintendent district hospital Anantnag, Dr Abdul Majeed Mehrab also confirmed the death of Hafiz Ullah Mir.
