Srinagar, Apr 9: Clashes erupted between police and protesters in several parts of the Valley on Friday.
In north Kashmir’s Sopur town, scores of people took to streets after the congregation prayers and staged pro-freedom demonstrations.
Police and paramilitary CRPF men deployed there resorted to baton charge and fired numerous tear smoke canisters to disperse the protesters, who retaliated with stones triggering clashes that continued till late in the evening.
Locals alleged that the CRPF troopers beat up many pedestrians in the Sopur town. Similar reports poured in from Varmul town where police used batons and teargas shells to disperse pro-freedom protesters near Cement Bridge after Friday prayers.
Protesters also took to streets at Gojwara in old city here in the afternoon. Mild clashes erupted when they pelted stones on policemen.
