LONDON, April 29 (APP)- World Kashmir Diaspora Alliance(WKDA) has termed the harnessing of Geo Thermal Energy of Puga Valley as “plundering of national resources of Kashmir” and “draining of our clean energy resource” by India, without any recompense to the people of Kashmir. Farooq Papa who heads the WKDA said in a statement Friday that the occupation Authorities must abstain from allocation of any land to outside geothermal developers for market sale of energy, as there is no financial mechanism or institution in place under occupation that will guarantee the benefit to the Kashmiri people.
He questioned the legitimacy of state Government to enter in such deliberation with Iceland Foreign Minister Ossor Skakrphedinsson, with respect to energy resources saying that it is in contravention to various, United Nation Resolution that unmistakably defines the role of state government to local issues of governance.
Papa said that as Kashmir is an internationally accepted and documented disputed territory and any dividend or share taken by encroaching on its perishable resources from its territory without the final settlement tantamount to economic piracy.
He appealed to Icelandic President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson to respect the International Law with respect to Kashmir’s disputed status and direct its Foreign Minister to take cognizance of The United Nations International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted on December 10, 1948 the General Assembly of the United Nations and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which clearly states that “All peoples may, for their own ends, freely dispose of their natural wealth and resources without prejudice to any obligations arising out of international economic co-operation, based upon the principle of mutual benefit, and international law. In no case may a people be deprived of its own means of subsistence.”
Papa said : “The draining of our national energy resources from our water potential in the last 60 years to provide the gains to Indian economy has caused Kashmiri people dearly and has undermined Kashmir’s economic base is an example that Foreign Minister Mr. Ossor Skakrphedinsson should have considered before issuing the statement regarding energy resources of Kashmir.”
