Reacting to the news reports that one of the arrested policemen in the Sopore ‘custodial killing’ wasn’t present on duty on the day when 28-year-old Nazim Rashid Shalla died, his father Abdul Rashid Shalla on Tuesday alleged that “police was trying to shield the real culprits”.
Talking to local news agency KNS over phone Rashid, who is a retired Sub-Inspector from the police department, said that he had no faith on the the investigating agency probing death of his son.
A Jammu based newspaper has reported that the detainee number one, selection grade constable Nisar Ahmad Malik, who has been behind the bars since his arrest on August 6th, was continuously at his home in Anantnag, as also at post-wedding feasts in the same area, from July 26th to July 31st.
The DIG North Kashmir Range, Muneer Khan, who is heading the Special Investigating Team probing the case has reportedly said that Nisar had been arrested for “destroying the evidences.”
“If a person who has destroyed evidences has been arrested why not those who tortured Nazim to death? The SIT is trying to shield the SOG men who were involved in the torture of Nazim,” a police sources told KNS.
However, another source revealed that Nisar has been arrested under section 201 and not under section 302. “Section 201 is destroying of evidence and Nisar has been arrested for that. In coming days more policemen who tortured Nazim would be arrested,” he added.
