While talking exclusively to ‘the Kashmir Scenario’, Mudasir Sofi discusses various realms of his life & shining persona.
”I was motivated by the ‘rights struggle’ of my nation since my childhood. I was born at a time when this nation started its freedom struggle and from the core of heart I felt sympathetic for the righteous cause of my people. When havoc was wreck on Pampore by the notorious renegade Papa Kishtwari, the anti-India sentiment propelled further in our saffron town, Pampore. The mute silence of Indian state over the crimes of government gunmen or Ikhwanis further cemented the cause of liberation in Pampore town.”
Despite tremendous hardships, Mudasir Ahmad Sofi remains firm on his pro-freedom sentiment. ”I have had to pay a huge price for my pro-freedom ideology. I am a firm believer in non-violent means for achieving noble realities like freedom and liberation. Even the stones we pelt are a way of expressing our peaceful resentment against the cruelties perpetuated on our browbeaten nation. I was arrested on several instances and also lodged under PSA in notorious Kathuaprison.”
Mudasir Ahmad Sofi also has love for Indian people. “I have played in several key national and international events and have always found the people of India quiet loving and accommodative. Our fight for liberation is not against the masses of India but against the Indian state.”
It is learnt that Mudasir Ahmad Sofi is continuously being approached and lured with promise of handsome awards for changing his ideology, but he remains steadfast.“I am being continuously approached by different quarters with promise of lot of rewards and incentives if I change my ideology. But, I want to clear that my stand remains firm i.e. I support the cause of liberation of my people and I would prefer starvation rather than compromising on my stand. With the blessings of Allah my conscience is alive and witness to the pain of my people.”
One more exciting fact is that Mudasir Ahmad Sofi is about to start his mega clothes shop in Pampore which is named by him as “Karachi Fabrics”.
On one side, the personas in Kashmir who have shot to fame in world of sports and entertainment have taken pride on their Indian citizenship, but Mudasir Ahmad Sofi stance stands out to be extraordinary and probably unprecedented.
Will the future Kashmiri icons and celebrities join the ‘class’ created by Mudasir Sofi remains to be seen?
