Shopian Sept 16: Residents of Shopian district in south Kashmir, which is under curfew for the past many days, Monday alleged that paramilitary CRPF men deployed in and around different hamlets are damaging the apple orchards.
They alleged that CRPF men have damaged apple orchards in Saidapora, Gagren, Wahil, Kilora, Zawoora, Batapora, Chanapora and Memander, according to a local news agency CNS.
“They have damaged so many apple trees, and even the fencing of my orchard has been removed by the CRPF personnel,” Molvi Syed Zeenat-ul-Islam, a Shopian resident, said.
The residents also said that continuous curfew and restrictions have marred fruit industry. “It’s apple season, but the continuous curfew has damaged this season. Fruits are lying rotten in Shopian and Arhama mandis. We are not able to pick and pack them,” another resident said.
He alleged that CRPF personnel were not allowing farmers to visit their orchards even in those hamlets where situation is normal.
