Zailgam, October 05: A woman in south Kashmir’s Zailgam village Saturday alleged that she was abducted by ‘two men in forces’ uniform’ who tried to rape her.
The incident triggered protests at her native village with agitated villagers blocking Islamabad-Kokernag higway demanding that the perpetrators must be identified and punished. Police and paramilitary rushed to the site of protest and fuired gunshots in the air to disperse the protestors.
Police sources said the 30-year-old woman, a mother of three girls, went out of house to answer nature’s call at around `1 am on Saturday.
“But she didn’t return. We are searching her through the night,” one of her relatives said.
When the dawn broke on Saturday, the victim was seen near a forest by a villager in a terrified state who then informed his in-laws.
“Two men in Army uniforms had abducted her and tried to rape her in the forest. She had underwent a secerian cesarean surgery recently due to which the abductors let her go,” her father told Authint Mail over phone.
She was taken to Kokernag Subdistrict Hospital where a team of doctors conducted her medical examination which ruled out that the victim was raped.
“The police must identify the perpetrators and punish them,” a villager said, wishing not to be named.
He claimed that unidentified men pelt stones at residential houses in villages surrounding Kokernag, a tourist spot in south Kashmir, which has left the villagers terrified.
