Srinagar, Nov 22:The inmates in Central Jail Srinagar are on strike over the disgrace of a woman by the Indian Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel deployed at the jail gate.A woman, who had come to see an inmate, was disgraced by the CRPF personnel on the pretext of security check.
The incident sparked a protest by the inmates. Over 490 political prisoners also joined the protest, refusing to meet any visitor until the CRPF personnel were removed from the jail. The protest entered third day today.
The protesting inmates demanded that the metal detectors be used for security checks so that women visitors do not have to undergo humiliating body search and the local policewomen be deployed in the jail along with CRPF women.
Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League (JKPFL) and J&K Mass Movement in a joint meeting have condemned the CRPF personnel for disgracing a woman at the gate of the jail. They said that no one could become a mute spectator on such shameful incidents and demanded exemplary punishment against the culprits. A joint meeting to condemn the shameful incident near the central jail Srinagar was also attended by the Mass Movement Chairman Moulvi Bashir Ahmed and General Secretary of the Peoples Freedom League Gh. Ahmed Parray and other members of these parties.
