Islamabad, 17 Dec, 2013: The Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, while paying rich tributes to renowned freedom fighter, Abdul Khaliq Ganai AKA Jemal Afgani on his 20th martyrdom anniversary has said that the martyred freedom fighter and commander of JK Jehad Force left indelible memories of his character, when he was murdered in custody by Indian forces on 16 December, 1994 in a military camp on the outskirts of Sopore.
Muhammad Farooq Rehmani said that Abdul Khaliq started his political struggle for the freedom of Jammu and Kashmir in 1970s and ended his life as a great patriot in the armed movement of Kashmir. He said the Kashmiris could never think of forgetting the sacrifices of those who had laid down their lives for a sacred mission linked with the destiny of a nation. “The message of Kashmiri martyrs for freedom is that Kashmir is not any territorial dispute between India and Pakistan, it is in fact the question of Kashmiri peoples’ destiny, that can’t be settled without empowering the people politically to honor their urges and aspirations. The only hitch is India in the way of the right of self-determination of the Kashmiris. To overcome India’s intransigence the world body should play its moral and organizational obligations according to its Charter and Security Council resolutions and thus save the region from any nuclear or conventional flare-up,” he remarked.
