Srinagar, Dec 22: Protests erupted in North Kashmir’s Palhalan village when according to eye witnesses men from police’s Special Task Force wing beat the local sumo driver and damaged his vehicle.
According to reports, men from STF asked local sumo driver Parvez Ahmad Gojri for his vehicle which he denied on pretext as he has to carry passengers from Palhalan to Goashbug. The denial infuriated men in uniform and they started beating Parvez and damaged his Sumo.
“Parvez was beaten to pulps by STF men and his sumo was damaged. His fault was that he denied Sumo as he has to carry passengers,” a local wishing not to be named told media over phone.
As the news spread, people spontaneously closed their shops and business establishments and came on roads. This resulted in pitched battle.
The locals alleged that using force to quell protesters, Police along with CRPF barged one kilometer inside village and resorted to tear gas shelling and baton charging. They told Kashmir Life that one youth was also arrested.
“Police and CRPF came inside one kilometer and started tear gas shelling. even one youth was arrested,” said a local to Kashmir Life.
