‘Big anti-India gatherings held across Kashmir’
Srinagar, Dec 27 : Dozens of civilians were injured when police subjected them to severe torture in Badgam and Pulwama districts during anti-India protests.
Indian paramilitary forces and police personnel resorted to brute force and tear-gas against civilians at Khan Sahib in Badgam after people took to the streets to get for burial the body of a youth identified as Showket Ahmad, who was martyred by the Indian troops in Chadoora. The residents of the area rejected the Indian claim that the victim was a foreign militant and said that he had gone missing from the area on 23rd November and was killed by troops in a fake encounter.At least 30 protesters were arrested, on the occasion. Troops also beat up anti-India protesters in Trala and Kakpora areas.
The veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, who continues to be under house arrest in Srinagar demanded investigation of all fake encounter cases by the War Crime Tribunal of the United Nations. He announced complete shutdown on 6th January in Sopore in memory of those killed by Indian troops on this day in 1993 in the town.
Meanwhile, a group of angry youth chanting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans attacked the cavalcade of pro-India National Conference leader and puppet Minister, Mohammad Akbar Lone in Bandipore.
