Islamabad, Jan 05: Kashmiris living on both sides of Line of Control on Sunday [January 5] observed Right to Self-Determination Day to draw world attention towards Kashmir dispute.

The Day is also aimed at to press their demand for the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions passed by the world body on this very day in 1949.
Addressing a function organized by Kashmir Liberation Cell in Muzaffarabad‚ speakers reaffirmed their commitment to continue the struggle till their realization of right to self determination.
They urged International community to pressurize India for implementing UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir and grant Kashmiris their basic right to self determination.
Addressing a seminar in Srinagar‚ the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference(M), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq‚ said that the UN resolutions provided the constitutional base of the Kashmir dispute. He deplored that the World Body had failed to fulfill its obligations with regard to the settlement of the dispute that had put a question mark on its credibility.
The Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Gilani‚ speaking at another seminar at Hyderpora in Srinagar‚ demanded settlement of the Kashmir dispute by implementing the relevant UN resolutions.
Senior Hurriyat leader and Chairman Jammu and Kashmir People’s Freedom League, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani in a statement issued in Islamabad said the governments of India and Pakistan in the first week of December 1948 had communicated respectively their acceptance of the principles, which are supplementary to the UN resolution of August 13, 1948.
Pakistan has reiterated its position on Kashmir issue and called for resolving the problem according to UN Security Council resolutions, this was stated by Pakistani foreign office spokesperson in Islamabad.
