Srinagar, January 07: The families of two Kashmiri youth serving life imprisonment in a Kolkata jail have demanded their shifting to Kashmir.
The detainees, Sheikh Farhat Mehmood and Sheikh Imram, serving life sentence on a fake charge have gone on hunger strike at Alipore Central Jail Kolkata to press for their shifting to a jail inside Kashmir.
After serving a decade in different jails of Kolkata, the duo is lodged at cell-13 of the Alipore jail Kolkata. The families of both the inmates have appealed to the authorities in Kashmir to take up the issue of their shifting with the Indian government.
On September 23, 2013, the Jammu and Kashmir government sent a letter to the West Bengal government, agreeing to keep them in a jail in Kashmir. Both the youth were awarded life sentence last year by a Court in Kolkata the fake charge.
