Srinagar, May 28:at least 75 youth were injured due to deadly pellet firing by Indian police in selected months of 2010, 2011 and 2013 in Baramulla district.
Among the injured Abdul Ghani Gojri died on August 25, 2011, while ten cases of serious eye injuries caused by the weapon have also been confirmed by the authorities District Hospital Baramulla.
It was admitted by the authorities in response to an application filed by Abdul Manan Bukhari of APHC’s Legal Cell under Right to Information Act (RTI).
Out of the 10 patients with eye injuries, Muzamil Qayoom of Sheeri Baramulla lost vision in his left eye.
The applicant had sought information about the total number of injured protestors admitted to DH Baramulla from 2010 to 2013. However, the hospital administration provided information about those injured admitted in the hospital for only a few months of these years.
The RTI query revealed that from 9 February 2013 to 11 March 2013, 91 patients were admitted in the District Hospital Baramulla among which 40 were having pellet injuries.
