Srinagar: The Kashmir doctors and paramedics on Friday suspended their routine work for an hour in protest against the suspension of Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) president Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan.
“In response to call given by DAK and supported by Junior Doctors Association Government Medical College Srinagar and Resident Doctors Association SKIMS Soura, the doctors and paramedics staged protests during the striking hour against the cowardly act of suspending Dr Nisar,” a DAK spokesman said.
The spokesman said the largest protest during the striking hour was held at SMHS hospital wherein large number of patients joined the protest. “The protestors were raising slogans against government and said that Dr Nisar was victimized for raising social issues. Patients expressed their anger over the suspension of DAK president and said that they are suffering because of his absence as Dr Nisar is their Messiah,” the spokesman said, adding the protestors voiced immediate revocation of suspension of Dr Nisar in the interest of patient care.
The DAK has warned government of ‘dire consequences’ if Dr Nisar is not reinstated immediately. “We will be forced to go for indefinite strike and government will be responsible,” the spokesman of the doctors’ body said.
Dr Hassan was earlier arrested and booked for ‘unlawful’ activities by Jammu and Kashmir police and was released after bail. He was suspended soon after his release.
