Srinagar: In Indian-admin Kashmir, there are 471 interrogation centers in the Kashmir Valley and Indian Army and police have tortured one out of every six Kashmiris in these centers. A report released on HR day by APHC.
This has been revealed in a report released by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference on the World Human Rights Day on Wednesday.
“Presence of mass graves at various locations in the Kashmir Valley stand witness to extra-judicial executions of innocents at wholesale level,” said the report compiled by the Human Rights Division of the APHC.Titled ‘Human Rights Violations Kashmir-2014,’ the report said that 16,329 people had been booked under draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA), so far, since 1988, when the Kashmiris intensified their struggle to get rid of Indian occupation. It said that 707 First Information Reports were filed against juveniles during the period.
The report maintained that India was using human rights abuses as a weapon of war to suppress the Kashmiris and control them by use of violence. “Human rights violations in Kashmir have been and are being used systematically as a weapon of war against the people of Jammu and Kashmir to curb their ongoing movement of freedom and to intimidate them to submission,” it said.
The report pointed out that the rights violations included extra-judicial, killings, involuntary disappearances, torture in custody, rape and molestation of women, denial of right to protest, denial of right to travel and other kinds of atrocities.
