‘Condemns killing of NC youth leader in Rajouri, reminds party the ‘goons’ it defended once will not spare it either’
Srinagar: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani on Monday condemned the “brutal murder” of a National Conference youth leader by a member of a Village Defence Committee in Rajouri.
Geelani demanded that the VDCs, which he termed a “terrorist force created by Indian home ministry”, should be disbanded.
“Besides army and paramilitary forces, India has created another organized state terrorist force in Kashmir in the name of Village Defence Committee (VDC) which is directly controlled by the Indian home ministry,” Geelani said in a statement issued here.
He said the VDCs have been created to suppress Jammu Muslims.
“And there is no accountability system in the state to check in the atrocities and cruelties of these government terrorists”.
“This force is directly handled by the Indian secret agencies and the home ministry of Delhi and on their directions these criminals are harassing the Muslims in every possible way,” he said.
Terming the Rajouri incident as heartbreaking and intolerable, Geelani said the Muslim identity of Kashmiris, irrespective of their political affiliations and beliefs, is considered a big crime.
“And in front of the communal forces, the punishment of this crime is not less than death.”
Demanding immediate investigation into the incident and stern punishment to culprit, the Hurriyat (G) Chairman said the episode “has created a sense of fear in the entire Rajouri and Jammu division where Muslims are very much concerned about their safety”.
The pro-freedom leader said there are 28,000 VDC members active in Jammu division and most of them are “professional criminals involved in many grave crimes like murders, robbery, rapes and drug trade”.
“These people consider themselves above law and the state government has no control over their activities,” he said.
Geelani said the Rajouri incident “is an open lesson for the National Conference itself which, during its regime, were defending these forces and were hiding their crimes against the Muslims of that region”.
“They (NC) should understand that their treachery can do nothing good for them and one day these communal elements will be merciless towards them too,” Geelani added.
