Srinagar: Less than a week after a member of Village Defence Committee (VDC) shot dead a leader of opposition National Conference in Rajouri, another member on Thursday shot dead a woman and her infant son in Budhal area of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a Srinagar-based news agency, VDC member Mushtaq Ahmad opened fire on a 35-year-old woman and her four-year-old son after he barged inside her kitchen this morning. Mushtaq, son of Mohammad Sharief, is a resident of Mohra Dhaveen village, and is absconding after the incident.
Reports said that the mother-son duo were rushed to nearby sub-district hospital with serious bullet injuries, but doctors at the hospital declared them dead on arrival.
The deceased have been identified as Shamim Akhter wife of Mohammad Din and their son Tawheed Ahmad.
Meanwhile, concerned Station House Officer (SHO), Kuldeep Raj Sharma, claimed to have seized the weapon of offense while a special police team was constituted to arrest the absconding accused.
“A case has been registered and the cause of the incident is being ascertained,” the officer said.
Meanwhile, local residents stated protest demonstrations demanding strict action against the armed accused.
