Srinagar: The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani, Chief of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik and APHC-M Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have called for complete shutdown on 9th and 11th February, the martyrdom anniversaries of prominent liberation leaders, Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru.
Syed Ali Gilani in a statement, while paying glowing tributes to the two martyrs demanded return of their mortal remains buried in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail. He said that although it was purely a human issue but India is very reluctant to this demand thereby violating all the principles of morality and constitution and in this way its claim of “largest democracy in the world” was getting badly exposed. The APHC (G) Chairman said that Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru were heroes of the Kashmiri people, and they were proud of them. He said that the two leaders kissed the gallows with pleasure in the same month and in the same jail. He called for strike and prayers meeting on 9th and 11th February to show respect for the martyred Kashmiri heroes.
Muhammad Yasin Malik while addressing a meeting held at the JKLF headquarters in Srinagar, today, said Muhammad Maqbool Butt is a glorious chapter of Kashmir’s history. His struggle, passion and sacrifices will always remain beacon of light for Kashmiri people, he added. “Maqbool started his fight against illegal occupation and oppression as a loner but soon his struggle and sacrifices motivated the entire Kashmiri population and brought a historic popular revolution,” he pointed out. Treading upon his footprints, Malik added, another son of Kashmir Muhammad Afzal Guru also kissed gallows for the sacred cause and became immortal. “Kashmiris cannot forget these sacrifices and complete shutdown will be observed on 9th and 11th February to protest against these judicial killings, oppression and occupation,” he said.
A peaceful protest march will be held at Lal Chowk on 10th February 2016 demanding the mortal remains of both Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru. A memorial programme will be held at Trehgam in Kupwara, the birth place of Maqbool Butt, on 11th February 2016 in connection with the 32nd martyrdom anniversary of Muhammad Maqbool Butt. Programmes will also be held across the globe in this connection.
JKLF London Branch will hold a protest rally in London on the occasion and demonstrations will be held across Azad Kashmir on 11th February.
The All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, paying tributes to the two martyrs said that the sacrifices of these martyrs had center-staged the Kashmir dispute at international level. The statement said that settlement of the Kashmir dispute was vital for peace in South Asia.
