Srinagar, February 24: Students of Kashmir University held protest demonstrations in the campus to express solidarity with the students of Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University and Kashmiri intellectual, Professor SAR Gilani, who have been booked under sedition charges for organizing a function in New Delhi on third martyrdom anniversary of Kashmiri martyr, Muhammad Afzal Guru, on 9th February.
The demonstrators raised pro-freedom, Pro-Pakistan, and anti-India slogans like “Pakistan se Rishta Kya, La Ilaha Illallah”, “Hum Kia Chahtey Azadi” and “Go India, Go Back”.
Earlier, the students had assembled in front of Allama Iqbal Library in the campus for a signature campaign to show solidarity with the students of JNU.
They were holding banners with slogans like “We stand with JNU”, “Don’t label students as terrorists”, “We stand for freedom of speech and expression” and ‘Hanging of Afzal Guru – travesty of justice”.
The protesters passed resolutions during the signature campaign in the university to extend support to the JNU students. “We believe that universities are forums to discuss, question and debate all issues including fundamental political issues from different perspectives,” they added.
Later, the protesters dispersed off peacefully.
Besides KU research scholars, Post Graduate students and candidates, who had come to appear in their Post Graduate entrance examinations, participated in the signature campaign.
