Kulgam: Massive clashes erupted in Yaripora area of Kuglam district on Wednesday afternoon soon after the local Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander, Tauseef Wagay of Kanjikullah, Kulgam was buried at his ancestral village in Kulgam.
Our correspondent in south Kashmir Suhail Shah said soon after the burial of the slain commander massive clashes erupted between protesters and government forces in Yaripora area. Scores of people have also recieved minor injuries during the clashes.
Suhail said intense clashes were going on in the area when the reports last came in.
The funeral prayers of Tauseef was offered multiple times at his ancestral village to accommodate thousands of people who had turned up from different villages of south Kashmir.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed in Kashmir Valley Wednesday in the wake of killing of three civilians in an encounter in Chadoora area of Budgam district.
Army Chief General Bipin Rawat had on February 18 said people protesting near gunfight sites should be dealt with sternly.
He had given the statement after protesting civilians from at least five villages in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district had on February 18 hurled stones at troops who had cordoned off Urivan village for search operations, compelling them to call off the operation.
