Jammu, April 26: Massive anger is brewing in Chenab Valley and Pir Panchal areas of Jammu region after a brazen attack of Hindu extremists on a nomad family in Reasi district.
People staged forceful protests in Rajouri against the incident.
Addressing the protesters, the speakers said that it was a shame that a lot of people attacked a small family and literally loot them. “These RSS men are trying to set Jammu and Kashmir afire and most of the disturbances in Rajouri are taking place because of them,” they said.
The speakers said that police had failed to protect the family. “You are snatching eyes from the youth in Kashmir and attacking the livelihoods of people in this region. We are for peace and we respect all faiths but if you do not want to maintain it, what can we do?” they said.
The Reasi attack that took place in Talwara belt has actually been recorded on a cell phone. Its video has gone viral on the social networking websites. It shows a young woman begging for mercy with her hands folded as scores of extremist Hindus are dismantling the small tin shed housing her family. Seemingly she is seen protecting her mother from any harm. The police, part of the crowd, seem ineffective. The 1.37-minute video ends with an old man flat on ground after being ruthlessly beaten by the mobsters with sticks.
Naseem Begum, one of the victims who talked to Indian news channel NDTV in Jammu, said that the Hindu goons wanted the family dead. “When I felt that they would attack my honour, I fled,” she said. “They wanted to kill us and throw our bodies into the river,” she added.
Meanwhile, APHC leader and Chairman of Kashmir Freedom Movement, Muhammad Sharif Sartaj, in a statement in Jammu denounced the assertions of BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in which he had suggested that the Kashmir Valley should be de-populated and Kashmiris sent to refugee camps in Tamil Nadu to curb protests. Muhammad Sharif Sartaj said that such statements were aimed at deviating the world’s attention from mass uprising in occupied Kashmir.
