Srinagar, Aug 14: Three non-local youth were thrashed Tuesday by people at Lal Chowk after they tried to hoist Indian flag (tricolor) on historic Ghanta Ghar.
Eyewitness said that three non-local youth attempted to unfurl Indian flag on Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower) in city center.
“Trio were severely thrashed by the people. However, CRPF came to their rescue,” witnesses said.
Reports said after the incident, people raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.
A police official at Kothibagh Police Station confirmed reporters that they have rescued three non-local youth from Lal Chowk.
A witness said that some political parties are using Kashmir for political gains. “Non-locals don’t know anything about Kashmir. The right wing political parties befool people of India and are spreading hatred against Kashmir. Kashmir is a disputed region that needs to be addressed,” he said and alleged that fanatic political parties are hell-bent to disturb peace in Valley.
Meanwhile, Indian police issued a statement on Tuesday evening that read: “Today afternoon few persons came to Ghanta Ghar in connection with some political activity.
“Some miscreants assembled at the scene and created disturbances by criminally intimidating them.”
“Police Station Maisuma has taken cognizance by registering FIR No 27/2018 under section 341,506 and 323 RPC and investigation has been initiated in the instant matter.”
