Srinagsr: Shutdown was observed in Jammu and Kashmir against attempts to tinker with Article 35-A of the constitution which bars outsiders from buying immovable property in the state.
Life remained paralysed in Kashmir valley in view of the shutdown call issued by the Joint Resistance Leadership – an amalgam of separatist outfits – to protest attempts to tinker with the legislation.
All shops and other business establishments are closed in commercial hub of Lal Chowk in Srinagar and other areas of the city while public transport is off the roads.
Reports of complete shutdown were also received from other districts of the Valley.
Shutdown was also observed in Chenab Valley areas of Doda, Bhaderwah, Banihal, Thathri, Gandoh and Kishtwar and Pir Panjal areas of Rajouri and Poonch against attempts to abrogate Article 35A
The Indian Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a bunch of petitions challenging Article 35-A tomorrow.
