Srinagar: Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Thursday reached to native village Dooru Sopore, his first visit to the area after a gap of eight years, to meet his bereaved daughter.
Hurriyat sources said that Geelani left at around 1 pm from his Hyderpora residence
Geelani’s son-in-law Ghulam Hassan Makhdoomi died in SKIMS Soura on Tuesday night, but he could not attend the funeral prayers owing to ailing health and bad weather conditions.
Shafeeqa, eldest of his daughters lives in Dooru village of Sopore, also his ancestral village.
Geelani, who is undergoing detention at his residence in Hyderpora area of Srinagar since 2010, was allowed by the authorities to visit his bereaved sister today.
Addressing the mourners, Geelani reiterated his demand for self-determination and said that despite oppression, the youth are sacrificing their lives to end the “Indian occupation.”
He said as per two nation theory, two countries – India and Pakistan — came in to existence, however, Kashmir was “illegally occupied by India by sending its troops.”
Geelani said that over one lakh people in Kashmir have sacrificed their lives for the just cause of self-determination.(VMS)
