Srinagar: Thousands of people attended the funeral prayers of two militants killed during a firefight with the Indian forces in Reben village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday.
As the bullet perforated bodies of Nawaz Ahmad Wagay and Yawar Ahmad Wani reached their native villages of Reban, Shopian and Bhatnoora, Pulwama respectively, thousands of mourners from adjoining and far-off places converged there to participate in their last rites.
Multiple rounds of funeral prayers were held for both the slain militants.
A complete shutdown was observed in Shopian and Pulwama districts of south Kashmir to mourn the killing of two militants in a gunfight earlier today.
Two Al Badr militants – Nawaz Ahmad Wagay son of Ghulam Qadir resident of Rebban Zainapora and Yawar Wani son of Ali Mohammad Wani resident of Batnoor Litter Pulwama – were killed in a gunfight with the Indian forces in Rebban area.
Reports said that all shops and other commercial establishments are closed in the districts while public transport remained off the roads.
A police official said that the gunfight broke out in Rebban following a cordon-and-search-operation launched by the forces after inputs about the presence of the militants in the area.
