Srinagar: A militant was killed in a shootout with the army in Rinzipora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday.
According to news agency GNS, the militants, believed to be three in number, attacked a patrolling party of army’s 55 RR near Rinzipora today morning.
The army, it said, retaliated, leading to a brief shootout in which one militant was killed.
A police officer identified him as Ishfaq Yousf Wani son of Mohammad Yousuf Wani of Qoil village of Pulwama.
Quoting sources, the report said that two other militants managed to escape from the spot.
The killing triggered violent protests in Pulwama town in south Kashmir.
Reports said that youth took to streets and hurled stones on the forces deployed in the town soon after the news of killing of Ishfaq Wani of Koil village reached there.
