.:.Bangalore Amnesty 13-Oct-2012:Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir are still using the Public Safety Act (PSA) to detain individuals without charge or trial in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in violation of their human rights, said Amnesty International.
An Amnesty International briefing released today – “Still A Lawless Law” – shows that despite legal and policy developments in the region, J&K authorities still use the PSA to facilitate a range of rights-violating behavior.

Indian Chief of Army Staff, General Bikram Singh has spelled out Indian military strategy for the next decade. It is based on New Delhi’s earlier concern over growing Pak-Chinese strategic and tactical cooperation in the field of defence and security. Ironically, Indian Intelligence agencies are totally blind in making an honest assessment of Chinese involvement in development projects in Pakistan. Indian Chief of Army Chief has expressed his concern over Chinese presence in Pakistan, especially in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan province. It is being claimed that India will continue military in held Jammu and Kashmir, Siachen Glacier especially Saltoro Ridge.

This statement is yet another addition in the contradictory statements issued by the successive governments regarding enforced
disappearances in Jammu and Kashmir.
On 18th July 2002, the then Home Minister of National Conference government, Mr. Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy acknowledged that 3184 persons had gone missing since 1989. On 11th June 2003, the Peoples’
Democratic Party led government admitted 3744 persons are ‘missing’ in Jammu and Kashmir since 1989 and later on 21stJune 2003 the government

.:.Srinagar, ZAHIR-UD-DIN writes (10, October 2012): October 1947 witnessed hectic diplomatic activity in New Delhi and Karachi (then capital of Pakistan) and military movement in Jammu and Kashmir which was still silent on the issue of accession. Contrary to common belief Indian troops entered Kashmir on 17 October, that is, 10 days before October 27.
It all started on October 12. Pakistan government sent a telegram to the Prime Minister of Jammu Kashmir, Meher Chand Mahajan, to inform him about “large number of villages (in Poonch) that can be seen burning from Murree Hills”, pointing out that as “Pakistan army obtains large number of recruits from Poonch” situation is “fraught with danger” to “friendly relations that Pakistan wishes to retain with Kashmir”. The message also seeks restoring order and discipline of Maharaja’s troops. Mahajan, in his reply of October 15 complains of infiltration from Pakistan and stating that his government is “prepared to have impartial inquiry into the whole affair to remove misunderstandings and restore cordial relations”.

Kashmir – SRINAGAR, Oct 10: The second volume of ‘Wular Kinaray’ , autobiography of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), was today released at a function here.
The function among others was attended by Syed Ali Geelani, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Gulam Nabi Sumji and parents of some youth who had lost lives in the ongoing struggle.
Sehrai while speaking on the occasion said he was witness to most of the incidents spoken about in the book.
Dr Showkat Shafi on the occasion said even as Geelani is one of the main critics of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, however, he has not remained short of praising Sheikh’s deeds where they deserved appreciation.

The aim was to hold an interaction with students at the Kashmir University, answer their questions and thus “build bridges of trust”. Also, at a university where campus placements are rare, the visit of the corporate czars was a suggestion to the possibilities that awaited Kashmiri students if they stopped throwing stones and sit through the national anthem.
